Fall Aeration (Done Through October)
Aeration is one of the best and most fundamental lawn treatments available to stimulate the healthy growth of your lawn. An aerator machine makes finger sized holes in your lawn and deposits the plugs on the surface for breakdown. It opens the pores of compacted soils and reduces unhealthy thatch buildup. Compaction and thatch are the primary obstacles that keep nutrients, water, and air from reaching the root structure. It is recommended that aeration be done annually in the fall.
*THE COST FOR AERATION IS BASED ON LAWN SIZE*
A white grub problem can cause serious damage to the health, appearance, and natural defenses of your lawn. White grubs in your soil can attack the roots of your grass, and just a handful of grub worms can lead to serious damage over time, even if you have a healthy lawn. If you suspect grub damage in your lawn give Green Grass, Inc. a call to come out and see what lawn care and grub control is needed.
Grubs are the white C-shaped larvae of various beetles, including Japanese Beetles, Asiatic Beetles and June Beetles that feed on grass roots, causing large patches of turf to
wilt or die.
The Japanese Beetle grub is the most damaging
grub in the midwest. Damaged turf can often be rolled up like a carpet due to the extensive feeding of the roots. The presence of birds, moles and skunks digging up the lawn is an indication of a high grub population.
Our grub control prevents grubs before they can get established. One application from us will last a whole year, so if you have struggled with grub damage in your lawn before you'll love how great and easy we make it to stop that from happening again.
Each year lawns lose grass! Overseeding is needed whether it is from season loss, drought stress, winter deterioration, disease, or insect damage. Overseeding is important to increase thickness of turf, as well as, strengthen the overall lawn by adding different varieties of grass to the property. Seeding is provided/offered to our customers in spring and fall of each season.
(SPRING) We will provide a heavy, overseeding to shaded areas, with your lawn’s first spring treatment at no charge (as needed).
(FALL) Overseeding is offered to our customers that schedule Fall Aeration. You will be invoiced for the cost of the seed only.
Mow for height and health
Always follow the best practices for lawn care mowing, and mow based on grass growth. Mowing heights vary according on grass type and the season. Some grasses, such as Bermuda grass, are best kept short, while other types need more height. Hot spells warrant higher mowing heights all around.
Changing mowing heights gradually over several sessions. Never remove more than one-third of the blade length at a time, or you risk inhibiting good growth above and below ground. Make tasks easier and less time-consuming by using the right turf tools for the job. To make it simple, mow your lawn at a higher setting in the summer and when fall approaches, you can mow shorter.
Manage water wisely
Lawn grasses grow best when watered deeply at less frequent levels. Shallow watering encourages shallow roots susceptible to drought and stress. Watering your lawn varies from month to month through the season, but you should always accommodate with what's happening in your lawn. In summer it is best to water in the early morning or late evening once the sun has gone down to avoid stressing the grass.
